Sky's Close-up

Taken at home in the play area of one of our little rabbits.

Sky is one of two rabbits that we've had for almost 3 years now, and they can just be so cute and fun sometimes. Of the two of them, Sky is the shy one and the fact that I was able to get this close and get such a good shot of him was a real treat.

He is also almost completely black, so the fact that this photo came out with so much detail around his whiskers and parts of his body was a big plus. In fact, I had to put down a white sheet on the flow for him to run around on while I was taking photos. Otherwise, he'd blend right in with the black area rug and it just wouldn't have worked.

The depth of field with the focus being up front on his eyes and nose and the cage, chair and exercise bike in the background being blurred also gives this photo a nice pop. There is also sort of an expression on his face that adds an engaging feel to the photo, almost to the point where you could include one of those cartoon thought bubbles on the right side there with a funny greeting card caption or something.

I always intend to do more camera shoots of these little guys, just because they're so cute and loads of fun. Sure, some people like to get on the floor with their 2 year old and take some photos, but try chasing one of these critters around and getting them to sit still for more than a second.

I'm sure it's more fun for me doing the chasing than it is for them to be chased.

Things to Note

Our two rabbits have their own cages since we brought them home a few months apart. We let them out together, but Sky usually changes Star (the female bunny) around in circles most of the time and she never wants anything to do with him. They are very rarely close enough together where I can get a shot of them together, but that's the goal.

There is a daily blog out there called Disapproving Rabbits that we became fans of shortly after getting Sky and Star. It features photos and amusing captions from all different household rabbits around the country, and worth taking a look. Last year, it gave me some inspiration around creating my own blog to feature occasional photos from our guys doing different things, but I just haven't gotten around to it yet.
